Huawei has developed its newest and most powerful artificial intelligence chip — the Ascend 910D — and is preparing to test it. With this chip, Huawei aims to create an alternative to the most advanced products of the American company Nvidia.
Huawei has already approached some Chinese technology companies to test the performance of the new chip. The company believes that the new Ascend 910D chip could be even more powerful than Nvidia’s famous H100 chip. Huawei plans to receive the first batch of samples by the end of May. Starting from June, Huawei is also planning to launch another new chip — the Ascend 910C — in the Chinese market.
Until now, Huawei and other Chinese companies have struggled to compete with Nvidia’s high-end chips. These chips are mainly used for training artificial intelligence models — a process where computers process large amounts of data to learn how to make accurate decisions.
Meanwhile, the U.S. government has restricted the sale of Nvidia’s most advanced AI chips to China in an effort to slow down China’s technological progress. For example, Nvidia’s H100 chip was banned from being sold in China in 2022 even before it was officially launched.
Currently, neither Huawei nor Nvidia has provided an official comment regarding this news.
