In Russia, a proposal has been made to restrict access to social media for children under the age of 14, Izvestia reports.
This suggestion was put forward by Rahman Yansukov, President of the Business Patriotism Development Association "AVANTI", in a letter addressed to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, and State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin.
The letter notes that recently, representatives from the domestic business community have been contacting AVANTI with complaints regarding prohibited content on social media platforms and the lack of legal regulation for children's access to these platforms.
To restrict children’s access, it is proposed that social media platforms require passport photos for registration. For users who are already registered, a secondary verification process is suggested.
The letter also includes a proposal to limit the activities of social media platforms that refuse to implement these new rules.
