Kazakhstan’s alternative urban transport startup UvU has received new investment. One of the investors in the company was regional venture capital fund INMerge Ventures. The startup currently operates in Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia and serves more than 45 corporate and school clients.
UvU is building a model for passenger transportation on a route within the city. The platform offers a new transport service that is located between taxis and traditional public transport. Users choose a route and time through the application, and the system automatically forms a suitable transport route.
The startup began operating in 2021 under the leadership of Madiyar Toleugalin. Initially, the company provided a safe transport service for children and women, but later changed its model and focused on intra-city collective transport services. Currently, 200 minibuses operate in Almaty, and the company plans to increase this number to 500 by the end of the year.
According to the company’s calculations, 500 active minibuses can replace about 10,000 private cars per day. This can have an impact on reducing traffic jams and harmful emissions in the city.
