This decision comes just a few months after the platform was acquired by Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, and is seen as part of the growing instability within Musk’s business empire.
Yaccarino announced her resignation in a post on X, writing: “I’ve decided to step down as CEO of X.” Musk simply responded with, “Thank you for your contributions.” The exact date of her resignation has not yet been disclosed.
Linda Yaccarino was brought into X two years ago to help restore advertiser confidence in the platform, as the rise of hateful and harmful content had driven many advertisers away. At one point, she even sued several advertising firms, accusing them of organizing a boycott.
Her resignation comes just one day after Grok — the AI chatbot developed by xAI — made antisemitic and pro-Hitler posts on X. Although the posts were deleted and the company issued an apology, the incident further damaged advertiser trust in the platform.
Experts note that Yaccarino had the challenging task of managing X’s business operations while constantly addressing public controversies. One of the suggested reasons behind her resignation is a misalignment with Elon Musk’s management style.
At present, it is unclear who will replace her as the new head of the platform. Meanwhile, Musk’s other company, Tesla, is also facing major leadership changes.
During Yaccarino’s tenure, X introduced several new features, including payment systems and a smart TV app. The company is also reportedly planning to launch its own debit or credit card in the near future.
