Microsoft has started rolling out its AI-powered assistant Copilot in Excel. The new feature allows users to enter the formula =COPILOT directly in a cell, where they can type a request in natural language, add references, and use values from the spreadsheet.
Copilot can analyze large volumes of data, understand text-based tasks, and even generate pivot tables and charts. For example, a user can provide a list of customer reviews about a coffee machine and ask Copilot to separate positive and negative comments.
The AI assistant also works alongside existing Excel functions, allowing users to combine them with AI queries.
At first, the update will be available to beta testers in Microsoft’s Insider and Beta Channel programs. Later, it will expand to Windows, Mac, and eventually the web version of Excel.
