Netflix launches TikTok-style vertical video sharing

Netflix announced that it will launch a TikTok-like vertical video feed within its apps this month, while also expanding the use of artificial intelligence across content creation and recommendation systems.

The short-form video feature is expected to help users discover video podcasts, shows, and movies more easily. The company has been testing the feature since last year and previously introduced a ChatGPT-powered search tool.

Co-CEO Gregory Peters said that while Netflix has worked on personalization for decades, new technologies offer significant room for improvement. He emphasized that new recommendation models can enhance user experience and speed up innovation.

Co-CEO Ted Sarandos added that AI will improve content creation tools and processes but will not replace human creativity.

As part of its AI push, Netflix has acquired Ben Affleck’s AI company InterPositive, which is designed specifically for filmmakers and has already attracted interest from creators.

The company also plans to use AI to enhance its advertising platform and expects to generate $3 billion in ad revenue this year.

Netflix reported $12.25 billion in revenue for Q1 2026, up 16.2% year-over-year, with profits rising 83% to $5.28 billion. It also announced that co-founder Reed Hastings will step down from the board this summer.
