American Express has agreed to acquire Hyper, an AI-powered expense management startup founded in 2022. The company aims to expand its automation tools for corporate clients with this move. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026.

The parties already collaborated on a credit card project in 2024. The acquisition is seen as part of American Express’s expansion strategy in the commercial card segment. The company introduced a new card with an annual fee of $295 last month and plans to launch another product this year.
