Japan provides $380 million in subsidies to Sony for sensor plant

The Japanese government will provide Sony with a 60 billion yen (about $380 million) subsidy for an image sensor factory to be built in the Kumamoto region in the west of the country.

According to Industry Minister Ryosei Akazawa, the move is aimed at ensuring a stable supply of sensors used in fields such as autonomous driving and physical artificial intelligence.

It should be noted that image sensors are becoming an increasingly important component, especially for autonomous transportation systems and artificial intelligence applications. Sony is known as one of the main suppliers of sensors used in smartphones.
