Sportswear giant Nike has unveiled its new Project Amplify. It is the world's first sports shoe equipped with an electric drive system.
According to the company, the shoes are designed to support the natural movement of the calf and foot joints, reducing the load on the muscles during walking and running. Project Amplify is not intended for professional athletes, but for ordinary users - it helps them cover faster and longer distances with less effort.
Nike compares the new technology to electric bicycles: the system's goal is to make light jogging and walking more comfortable and accessible. The shoe is optimized specifically for people who run at a speed of 10-12 minutes per mile.
Inside the shoe is a lightweight electric motor, a transmission belt and a cuff-type battery. This mechanism gives the user an additional boost with each step, reducing the load on the muscles and joints. When the battery runs out, the shoe can also be used in normal mode.
Nike says that Project Amplify will be released in the coming years. The first version is not intended for sports records, but for people who want to move with less effort and more comfort.
