OpenAI and renowned designer Jony Ive are continuing to work on their first consumer device together. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the company’s first product will be a smart speaker without a screen, about the size of a hockey puck and shaped like a donut.
According to the information, the device will be equipped with light sensors, cameras and moving elements for physical interaction with the user. These features aim to make communication with artificial intelligence more natural and interactive.
One of the main advantages of the new device will be its ability to remember previous conversations with ChatGPT and continue the context. In addition, it is reported that the function of controlling smart home systems will be introduced. Thanks to the built-in battery, it will be possible to conveniently move the device to different rooms in the house.
Mark Gurman notes that despite Apple’s industrial espionage allegations against OpenAI, the new device does not resemble Apple products in terms of design.
Although an official launch date has not been announced at this time, OpenAI's first device is expected to go on sale in 2027 and will cost at least $300.
