OpenAI's Net Loss Reaches $39 Billion

Although OpenAI ended 2025 with record financial results, the company's net loss increased sharply. According to the Financial Times, OpenAI's revenue in 2025 reached $ 13 billion. Towards the end of the year, the company generated about $ 2 billion in monthly revenue. For comparison, this figure was $ 1 billion at the end of 2024.

At the same time, OpenAI's net loss increased almost eightfold in a year, to $ 39 billion. The company's total expenses amounted to $ 34 billion. Of this amount, $ 19 billion was spent on research and development, and about $ 6 billion on sales and marketing activities.

According to the report, about $ 30 billion of the $ 39 billion loss was due to one-time accounting adjustments related to the company's previous corporate structure. Without taking this factor into account, OpenAI's real net loss was about $ 8 billion.

OpenAI underwent a corporate restructuring in October 2025. CEO Sam Altman previously told employees that OpenAI plans to hold an IPO within the next year. The company's confidential filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) allows for more flexibility in deciding when to go public.
