Developers can now submit the apps they create for ChatGPT to the company for approval. Applications that successfully pass the review are planned to be made available next year.
OpenAI had already announced in October that third-party apps would be integrated into its main product, the chatbot. The goal is to provide users with broader capabilities through ChatGPT. The company has recently launched integrations with platforms such as Spotify, Zillow, and Canva.
With this latest update, OpenAI is making this area accessible to a wider developer audience. According to the company, these apps will add new content to chats. For example, users will be able to make purchases directly during conversations, convert draft texts into presentation files, or perform specific tasks such as searching for a home.
Currently, the OpenAI Apps SDK tool is in beta, allowing developers to create new experiences for ChatGPT. Once they complete their app, they can apply and track the approval process through the OpenAI Developer platform.
The company notes that the first approved apps will be activated within ChatGPT starting next year. This step is considered an important milestone for OpenAI, both for building an app ecosystem and for ensuring users spend more productive time on the platform.
