Introduced as part of the "12 Days of OpenAI" event marathon, the o3 model was noted to have a 20 percent higher performance than the o1 model. The company emphasized the model's logical reasoning skills, emphasizing that it is more effective at solving more complex and multi-step problems.
Along with this announcement, OpenAI announced that the o3 mini will be released in late January, with the main o3 model shortly after, and has begun accepting applications from researchers to test the new model.
As we move into the third week of January, Sam Altman announced that the development process of the o3 mini model, which he sees as the beginning of the next phase of artificial intelligence, is complete and will be available to users in a few weeks.
Altman noted that they attached special importance to user feedback during the development phase of the model, adding that the application programming interface (API) and ChatGPT versions of the o3 mini are planned to be released simultaneously.
