OpenAI has announced that it will make its next-generation GPT-5.6 model family available to all users starting July 9. Although the company first introduced the models on June 26, 2026, they were initially made available to a limited number of partners at the request of US authorities.
According to the report, three models will be made available for public use. Sol will be the company's flagship model, Terra will be a balanced version optimized for everyday tasks, and Luna will be offered to users as a faster and more accessible option.
According to sources, permission for the model family to be widely used was granted by the Donald Trump administration after additional security tests and meetings with government officials.
It should be noted that in June 2026, Anthropic also restricted access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models to foreign users after the request of US authorities. Although access was later restored, users claimed that the models had lost their previous performance.
