Pavel Durov: Telegram's removal from the App Store was the result of a targeted attack

Telegram founder Pavel Durov has made a statement about the messenger's short-term removal from the App Store. According to him, the incident was not a problem with the moderation system, but the result of a targeted attack on the platform.

Durov said that instead of posting a new message, the attacker edited an old message and added prohibited content created by artificial intelligence. Since the message was posted a long time ago, most users were not aware of the change, and the moderation system could not react to it immediately.

According to him, people using this method demand money from the owners of large Telegram channels and groups, otherwise they post prohibited content and complain to Apple. The goal is to achieve a temporary blocking of these communities or the application itself.

The Telegram team removed the prohibited content and blocked the offending account, before Apple returned the application to the App Store.

Durov also criticized Apple's move, saying that the company first removed Telegram from the store and only then contacted the developers. In his opinion, this approach poses a risk for all major platforms that rely on user content.
