Germany exposes huge pedophilia network operating on the Darknet
After years of investigation in Germany, a huge pedophilia platform operating on the Darknet has been exposed and shut down. The European Police Organization (Europol) has assessed this platform as one of the largest pedophilia networks in the world.
According to the information released by the Bavarian State Criminal Investigation Department and the Bamberg Public Prosecutor's Office, the platform had 1.8 million users and more than 91 thousand videos were presented to users. This means that approximately 3.5 videos are uploaded every hour.
In addition to Germany, the Dutch and Swiss police also participated in the operation. As a result of operations carried out in 31 countries, approximately 1,400 suspects were identified. In Germany alone, 103 people were investigated.
Europol took over the coordination of the operation. Although the platform has been reported to have been shut down, the identities of those who run it have not yet been determined.
What is the Darknet?
Darknet is a secret internet network that cannot be accessed with regular internet browsers and is accessed with special software. Users can operate anonymously here, keeping their identities hidden. It is most often accessed through special systems such as Tor. Although the darknet is sometimes used for confidential communication and protection of personal information, it often serves as a platform for illegal activities.
