OpenAI has developed a new feature in ChatGPT that prompts users who have been chatting for an extended period to “take a break.”
Users will see two buttons: “Continue” and “Remind Me Later.”
It’s still unclear how many minutes of continuous use will trigger this notification, as the company plans to adjust it over time.
OpenAI says this feature aims to help users manage their time more effectively and prioritize their mental well-being. While developing the feature, the company consulted with mental health professionals, including psychologists and therapists.
However, some users have criticized the update, calling it unnecessary and restrictive. They argue it may interfere with free conversation and have called on the company to provide more useful features, better user education before such prompts, and focus on improving the core technology instead.
This feature was introduced just before the release of GPT-5, which has led to a mix of positive feedback and criticism.
