The implementation of the "Digital Nomad Visa" mechanism is possible in Azerbaijan.
This was stated by MP Rizvan Nabiyev during the first reading discussion of the draft law "On Information, Informatization and Information Protection" at the plenary session of the Milli Majlis held today.
In his opinion, the strategic goal is for Azerbaijan to become one of the leading technology and innovation centers in the region: "This goal includes strengthening digital sovereignty, ensuring the financial stability of the innovation ecosystem and increasing digital security. For this reason, work is currently underway to amend about 30 laws and codes, as well as adopt new laws.
At the meeting of the Digital Development Council, chaired by First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, strengthening the legislative framework and adopting international experience were identified as key priorities. We can already see significant achievements in this area in a short time after the first meeting. These steps are not accidental. Because global competition is intensifying day by day. Currently, the digital economy accounts for approximately 17% of the world's gross domestic product. Economic development in this area is 2.5-3 times faster than in traditional sectors."
R. Nabiyev said that today there are more than 5 billion social network users in the world and hundreds of terabytes of new information are created every day: "In such a situation, the labor market is also rapidly transforming. According to forecasts, by 2030, approximately 40% of jobs will require digital skills. As a result, administrative costs are predicted to decrease by more than 30% and time savings of up to 90%. "
According to him, the main priorities identified at the first meeting of the Digital Development Council include integration into the advanced technology ecosystem, the creation of a competitive innovation environment for international investors, and other strategic directions:
"To achieve these goals, it is of great importance to attract IT specialists and innovative entrepreneurs to Azerbaijan. There is serious competition in this direction in the world. In this context, the implementation of the "Digital Nomad Visa" mechanism is an important step. At the same time, ensuring the international recognition of electronic diplomas and certificates is also among the priorities. In addition, the expansion of international technology partnerships is of particular importance. The steps taken in recent months to deepen cooperation in the field of technology and innovation with both the European Union and the United States contribute to strengthening Azerbaijan's international position in this area."
