Russia puts Pavel Durov on international wanted list

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has announced that Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram platform, has been charged with aiding and abetting terrorist activities and has been placed on an international wanted list.

According to the FSB, the Telegram administration has not deleted channels, chats and bots that Ukrainian special services allegedly used for sabotage and terrorist activities, as well as cyber fraud. The agency claims that these activities have caused human casualties and significant material damage.

The charge against Pavel Durov has been brought under the article of the Criminal Code of Russia on aiding and abetting terrorist activities. With this decision, he has been placed on an international wanted list.

At present, neither Pavel Durov nor Telegram have made an official statement regarding the decision of the Russian authorities. The number of monthly active users of Telegram exceeds 1 billion.
