Samsung Electronics announced that it will spend a record 37.7 trillion won (about $25.7 billion) on research and development (R&D) in 2025. This figure represents a 7.8% increase compared to the previous year, according to the company’s annual report.
The company said that the spending is mainly focused on the development of next-generation semiconductor technologies for artificial intelligence. In particular, the growing demand for high-bandwidth memory technologies – HBM (High-Bandwidth Memory) and high-capacity DDR5 chips has accelerated these investments.
Samsung also said that it will invest 52.7 trillion won (about $35.9 billion) in manufacturing and infrastructure projects in 2025. Part of this money will be spent on the construction of a new NRD-K semiconductor R&D complex located at the company’s Giheung campus. The move aims to strengthen the company’s position in the AI chip market.
