Sony Corporation is preparing to launch a cryptocurrency exchange subsidiary, transforming local trading platform WhaleFin, which it acquired last year.
While Sony has previously dabbled in Web 3 through investments and partnerships, this deal is the PlayStation maker's first direct foray into crypto. The company has worked with Astar Network for its Web3 developer software and applied for a patent for transferring NFTs between different games and consoles.
Amber Japan, formerly known as DeCurret, was acquired and rebranded in 2022 by crypto-finance company Amber Group.
