Telegram founder Pavel Durov said the app has turned a profit for the first time since switching to a monetization model three years ago.
Telegram founder Pavel Durov said the company is now profitable. According to Durov, the messaging app’s total revenue in 2024 will exceed $1 billion.
The company launched its premium subscription service in 2022 and currently has 12 million paid users. “Telegram’s total revenue in 2024 will exceed $1 billion, and excluding crypto assets, we are closing the year with a cash reserve of more than $500 million,” Durov said.
The Telegram CEO also announced that the company had repaid a significant portion of its debt in the fall.
“Over the past four years, Telegram has raised about $2 billion in debt. This fall, we repaid a significant portion of it, taking advantage of favorable rates for Telegram bonds. But there is still a lot of work ahead,” Durov posted on the X platform.
In an interview with the Financial Times earlier this year, Durov said the company plans to reach full profitability by 2025 and aims to go public in the future.
With more than 950 million monthly active users, Telegram has already introduced features for businesses, launched an ad revenue sharing service, allowed creators to monetize paid content on channels, and launched a mini-app store.
