US electric car maker Tesla has officially registered its AI-powered voice assistant feature in China. The Shanghai government said the company has submitted its generative AI technology to the country's cyberspace regulator. The procedure is mandatory for all AI services operating in China.
According to the report, Tesla's feature is one of 158 AI products and services registered in Shanghai. The Chinese government has been tightening its grip on rapidly developing AI technologies in recent years.
The registration comes as Tesla is trying to maintain its market share in China. The company's "Full Self-Driving" system has yet to receive full approval in the country. Meanwhile, local electric car manufacturers are adding more AI features to their cars.
Tesla is reportedly planning to use DeepSeek and ByteDance's technologies for voice control in China.
