US authorities are investigating the shipment of servers equipped with advanced Nvidia chips to China via Thailand. The investigation alleges that Bangkok-based Obon Corp. helped ship Super Micro servers to China.
US prosecutors named the company “Company-1” in an indictment filed in March. Obon is said to be involved in Thailand’s national artificial intelligence initiative.
According to the indictment, three people associated with Super Micro diverted at least $2.5 billion worth of U.S.-made artificial intelligence servers through Taiwan and Southeast Asia to circumvent export restrictions.
Some of the servers sold to Obon were reportedly later shipped to Alibaba. Alibaba has denied the allegations, saying it has no business relationship with Super Micro, Obon or the intermediaries named in the indictment.
