The 2026 World Cup ball must be charged before each game

The official ball to be used at the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be equipped with modern technologies to help referees make more accurate decisions. The ball, called “Trionda”, developed by Adidas, works with the “Connected Ball Technology” system and transmits data collected during the game directly to the VAR system.

A special sensor is placed inside the ball that collects data 500 times per second. This technology helps to identify offside, handball and other controversial episodes by monitoring every touch of the ball.

For the electronic system to work, the ball is charged with energy at a special station before each game. The battery, which is fully charged in about 90 minutes, can work for up to 6 hours in active game conditions. When the ball is off the field, it automatically goes into sleep mode to reduce energy consumption.

The design of the ball, which will be used at the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico, uses the colors red, green and blue, symbolizing all three countries.
