The U.S. Department of Defense has signed a $200 million artificial intelligence contract with OpenAI. In an official statement released on June 17, 2025, the department announced that OpenAI, a leading company in the field of AI, will develop advanced AI-based product prototypes for the Pentagon by July 2026.

The goal of the new technologies is to address critical security issues in both combat zones and administrative or corporate environments. Most of the work is expected to take place in Washington, D.C., and surrounding areas.

As of June 2025, OpenAI has reached an annual revenue of $10 billion, driven not only by individual users but also by the increasing adoption of its AI tools in the business sector and the expansion of its corporate subscription plans. Following this growth, the company introduced its new advanced AI model, “o3-pro,” which is now available to ChatGPT Pro and Team users. The model stands out for its improved reasoning, mathematical, and coding capabilities.

This collaboration highlights the U.S. government's strategic approach to artificial intelligence and reinforces OpenAI’s growing role in national security and defense technology.
