Adam Mosseri wrote that Threads was initially created just as an idea to compete with Twitter, but it has now become an important platform where people can share their opinions. He also noted that there is still much work to be done on the platform.
Threads gained 50 million new users in the last quarter. Previously, Mark Zukerberg had said that the platform had 350 million monthly active users.
Meanwhile, the X platform still has over 600 million monthly active users.
On mobile devices, Threads’ daily user numbers are approaching those of X. In June 2025, Threads’ mobile app recorded 115 million daily active users, representing a 127% increase compared to the previous year. X, on the other hand, had 132 million daily active users, showing a slight decline.
However, in terms of website traffic, X is still far ahead of Threads: X received an average of 145.8 million daily visits worldwide, while Threads had only 6.9 million.
Threads’ growth has been driven by several new features added over the past year, including direct messaging (DM), custom feeds, fediverse integrations, AI enhancements, and other innovations.
