Google's artificial intelligence division Google DeepMind has undergone a leadership change. The company's CEO Sundar Pichai announced that DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis will now serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Google DeepMind and Chief Scientist of Alphabet.
In his place, Koray Kavukçuoğlu, Google DeepMind's CTO and chief artificial intelligence architect, has been appointed one of the company's new senior executives - Senior Vice President.
In his new position, Koray Kavukçuoğlu will lead the company's core artificial intelligence model development, advanced AI research, Gemini platform and development teams.
Sundar Pichai said that Kavukçuoğlu has been working at Google DeepMind for 13 years and is one of the world's recognized experts in deep learning. He founded DeepMind's deep learning team and led the development of key technologies in the field of artificial intelligence such as WaveNet and DQN (Deep Q-Network).
In his new role, Demis Hassabis will focus on the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI) and scientific discoveries, while continuing to lead Alphabet's Isomorphic Labs.
