Uber's robo-taxis begin operating in Dubai

Uber and WeRide have launched a driverless robo-taxi service in Dubai. The service is now available directly through the Uber app and, unlike the previous phase, there is no safety operator in the cars. This step was made possible after the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority granted a trial permit.

The local operations of the project are carried out by Tawasul. The robo-taxi operates in the areas of Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Investment Park Second, Jabal Ali Industrial First and Al Hamriya Port.

It should be noted that the parties began the pilot phase in December, during which free rides for passengers and a safety driver were introduced.

According to reports, Uber owns 5.82 percent of WeRide's shares and invested $ 100 million in the company last year. The partnership plans to expand the service to 15 more cities over the next five years.
