Chinese electric car makers are rapidly expanding their presence in the South Korean market. Geely-owned Zeekr has opened its first showroom in Seoul. Meanwhile, BYD is also looking to strengthen its product range to compete with Hyundai and Kia.
According to industry sources, Zeekr and BYD are looking to strengthen their position in the South Korean electric car market, which has been dominated by Hyundai and Kia for many years.
Zeekr plans to launch the 7X SUV in South Korea in the second half of 2026. The car is expected to be priced between 50-60 million won (about $35-41,000). This puts the model in the same price segment as the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
According to reports, more than 220,000 new electric cars were registered in South Korea in 2025. Sales of Chinese-made electric cars increased by 112.4 percent year-on-year to 74,728 units, accounting for 33.9 percent of the market.
