Alan Day, vice president who has led Apple’s interface design team since 2015, is leaving the company to join Meta. He recently unveiled the “Liquid Glass” technology at WWDC 2025. At his new position, Day will work on interfaces for future AI-powered devices.
This move is considered a significant talent loss for Apple. Following Jony Ive’s departure in 2019, the company has already experienced an outflow of experienced designers. Meanwhile, competitor Meta has made progress in this field by launching its Ray-Ban Display smart glasses.
Although Tim Cook is currently trying to accelerate the development of Apple’s own smart glasses, the departure of a leading expert to a rival could impact these plans. According to reports, Alan Day will leave Apple on December 31, and his role will be taken over by veteran designer Steve Lymay, who has been with the company since 1999.
