This year, 124 Telegram, Instagram, and TikTok accounts promoting human trafficking have been shut down.
According to Tech.az, this was announced by Seyfulla Azimov, Azerbaijan’s National Coordinator for Combating Human Trafficking and First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, during today’s plenary session of the Milli Majlis while presenting the 2024 national report on efforts to combat human trafficking.
According to Azimov, 44 related crimes committed using information technologies were identified, and criminal cases have been launched:
"Additionally, 156 social media accounts promoting human trafficking were shut down last year, and 124 such accounts have been taken down in the current period of this year."
The National Coordinator also noted that all 91 victims of human trafficking identified last year were Azerbaijani citizens:
"In 2024, three Azerbaijani citizens were arrested in Cyprus and Guatemala on charges of involvement in human trafficking. Also, one of the individuals readmitted to Azerbaijan was confirmed to have been a victim of human trafficking in Greece."
