Meta has introduced an AI-powered message summary feature for WhatsApp. This new functionality provides users with concise and clear summaries of their unread messages. These summaries are visible only to the user and cannot be seen by other participants in the chat.
According to Meta, the feature operates based on “Private Processing” technology. This technology enables Meta AI to generate responses without ever seeing the messages or the summaries, ensuring full privacy of user data. Additionally, other chat participants cannot tell if you have summarized your unread messages.
The feature is turned off by default, but WhatsApp notifies users with a small icon when the option is available. Users can enable or disable the feature at any time by navigating to Settings > Chats > Private Processing.
Initially, this feature has been launched in the U.S. with support for the English language, with plans to expand to other countries and languages in the future.
Previously, Meta AI allowed users to ask general questions or tag messages for context within chats but did not have access to read messages. The new technology privately accesses chat context to provide message summaries and writing suggestions.
This innovation offers WhatsApp users a faster and more efficient communication experience, simplifying message management while maintaining a high level of data privacy.
