The information circulating about betting on the Paris temperature has caused serious debate. Allegedly, a person made a profit of about $ 34,000 by betting on the maximum temperature on the Polymarket platform.
What is the claim?
According to the information, on April 15, when the temperature in Paris was expected to be around 18°C, the person bet on the less likely result of 22°C. He then went to the meteorological sensor located near Charles de Gaulle Airport and heated the device with a portable hair dryer.
Allegedly, as a result of this intervention, the temperature displayed by the sensor rose for a short time and the market result was determined based on this peak indicator. Thus, the person made a large profit.
Official position and suspicions
However, this version of “hair dryer manipulation” has not yet been officially confirmed. The official French meteorological agency Météo France has already filed a complaint about the incident and the matter is being investigated by the Roissy Air Transport Gendarmerie Brigade.
Previously, meteorologists said that such short and sharp temperature increases are not explained by natural causes. However, the claims about the use of a hair dryer in particular have not yet been confirmed and are considered more likely or hypothetical.
