Meta’s “X” (formerly Twitter) rival Threads continues to roll out new features at a rapid pace. Following on from “community” and “ghost posts,” the app is now rolling out new tools that give users more control over how they manage their conversations.
One of the new features, “reply approvals,” lets users approve replies to their posts before they’re made public.
Previously, Threads, like other social networks, allowed you to limit replies to people you follow, those who follow you, or those you’ve tagged in a post. The new feature allows all users to keep replies public, while also preventing negative or off-topic comments.
Meta says these tools will help users “set the tone of the conversation” and have more freedom in their interactions. So while Threads encourages open discussions, it keeps the power of control in the hands of the post creator.
The company is also introducing new filter features in the activity feed. Thanks to these filters, users will be able to more easily see only replies from people they follow or replies that mention their name. Available filter options include “Approved,” “Quotes,” “Reshares,” and other categories.
According to Meta’s Q3 financial report released this week, Threads has now reached 150 million daily active users (up from 100 million in December 2024). In August, the platform’s monthly active users exceeded 400 million.
As the platform grows, Meta is also rapidly developing mechanisms for generating revenue from Threads. Ads are now enabled globally, and the company is preparing to introduce video ads.
At the same time, Threads is conducting new tests to personalize the user experience. According to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, controls are currently being tested that allow users to adjust the algorithm by adding or removing topics that are relevant to their interests.
