Amazon introduces new fuel surcharge amid war

The Iran war has had a major impact on global energy markets, sending fuel prices soaring, especially in the United States. In response to rising transportation costs, Amazon announced a new 3.5% fuel surcharge for sellers using its logistics network.

The company said the surcharge would remain in effect indefinitely, but could be reviewed depending on market conditions.

An Amazon spokesperson said rising fuel and logistics costs have made operations more expensive across the industry:
“Until now, we have absorbed these costs ourselves. However, when costs continue to remain high, like other major carriers, we are implementing temporary surcharges to offset some of this burden.”

The company added that the 3.5% surcharge is lower than other major logistics companies.
