Amazon is starting to train a new artificial intelligence model it calls Olympus. This model will have 2 trillion parameters, making it one of the largest models currently in development. For example, OpenAI's GPT-4 model has one trillion parameters.
The team leading this project is led by Amazon's Rohit Prasad and reports directly to CEO Andy Jassy. Amazon is bringing in researchers working on Alexa AI and Amazon's science team to work on training models to bolster AI efforts within the company.
Amazon previously trained smaller models like Titan and offered those models to Amazon Web Services (AWS) users. It has also partnered with AI model startups Anthropic and AI21 Labs.
Amazon believes that having this large AI model can increase enterprise customers' access to the best performing models on AWS. However, no exact time has been set for the new model's launch date.
