Amazon has finally begun implementing the Kuiper Project, which plans to create a satellite constellation in Low Earth Orbit to provide internet access. The company aims to compete in the market with SpaceX's Starlink system. The first two prototype satellites, KuiperSat-1 and KuiperSat-2, were launched into space aboard a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket. The rocket, along with the two test satellites, was launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida. The release of these two prototypes marks just the beginning, as the project envisions launching a total of 3,236 spacecraft across the planet, which is expected to provide high-speed broadband internet access at around 400 Mbit/s. It is believed that these satellites will be positioned in orbits at altitudes of 590, 610, and 630 kilometers. After all the satellites are deployed, Kuiper Systems will compete with SpaceX and its Starlink network, as well as OneWeb.
