Amazon plans to invest up to $4 billion in artificial intelligence company Anthropic. With this investment, the company aims to increase competition with Microsoft, Meta, Google and Nvidia. Amazon, which will initially receive a minority stake with an investment of $1.25 billion, has the right to increase this investment to a total of $4 billion.
As part of the deal with Amazon, Anthropic will use AWS as its primary cloud provider for critical workloads, including security research and future baseline model development, and will use AWS's Trainium and Inferentia chips for model development. Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon, said that they believe that many customer experiences will improve with this collaboration.
