The municipality of Amsterdam has banned civil servants from using the Telegram messenger on their work phones, citing the risk of espionage and criminal activity in the application.
Alexander Sholtes, a member of the city council, who deals with the city's information policy, said this. The ban was implemented at the end of April, but information about it was not released until recently.
According to Scholtes, Telegram is a "haven for hackers, cybercriminals and drug traffickers," which has raised concerns among authorities in Amsterdam. Interestingly, other municipalities in the Netherlands have not yet imposed similar bans on the use of Telegram.
