Artificial Intelligence Is Transforming the World of Presentations – The “Death” of PowerPoint?

The integration of artificial intelligence into presentation technologies has introduced serious competition to traditional tools – particularly PowerPoint. Although the phrase “AI has killed PowerPoint” is a metaphor, it isn’t far from reality. Modern AI-powered presentation platforms – such as Gamma, Beautiful.ai, Tome, and others – now allow users to create high-quality presentations with just a few lines of instruction. There’s no longer a need to spend hours designing slides, choosing layouts, and writing text.

What Is AI Changing?

These next-generation platforms don’t just focus on design – they also generate the writing style, flow, and visual consistency of the slides automatically. For example, the global consulting firm McKinsey is already using an internal AI tool called “Lilli.” Employees simply input the goal and topic of the presentation, and the AI generates the entire structure, content, tone, and visuals.

Is PowerPoint Still Relevant?

While traditional PowerPoint software offers users extensive control and customization, it struggles to compete with the speed and automation of AI-powered tools. AI presentation platforms:

  1. Automatically apply modern and dynamic designs;
  2. Tailor content to the presentation’s purpose;
  3. Optimize the overall structure and slide sequencing;
  4. Save significant time and resources.

Some technology experts note that AI has already “buried human labor” in this field. These innovations are increasingly being adopted both by individuals and in corporate settings.

What Does the Future Hold?

  • Presentation preparation will become faster – hours of work will be reduced to minutes;
  • Creative input may decrease, but strategy and oversight roles will gain importance;
  • Presentations designed with AI will look more professional and on-brand;
  • Technical skills required for creating presentations will diminish in both educational and corporate fields.

While the statement “AI has killed PowerPoint” may be hyperbolic, the direction of technology makes it increasingly plausible. It’s no longer necessary to be a designer or experienced presenter to create a compelling slide deck. AI tools do most of the work for you. So, while classic tools like PowerPoint may not disappear completely, they are quickly being replaced by newer, more flexible technologies.
