Blue Origin is developing a concept for placing computing infrastructure directly in orbit. Company founder Jeff Bezos said the project, called “Sunrise,” is being developed as the company has filed an application with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to launch more than 50,000 satellites.
According to Bezos, moving data centers into space could be one way to address their growing energy demands. Blue Origin is considering orbital infrastructure as a platform for computing systems operating beyond Earth.
The company is joining an emerging race to build data centers in space. SpaceX and Starcloud have previously announced similar projects, signaling a broader shift toward using satellite constellations not only for communications but also for computing infrastructure.
