The apps will be separate from Canva's services, and all Affinity employees will remain with the company.
Canva purchased Affinity design software package. The package includes vector graphics editor Affinity Designer, image editor Affinity Photo and layout software Affinity Publisher. The programs offer similar features to similar Adobe services: Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, respectively.
The amount of the acquisition was not disclosed, but Canva co-founder Cliff Obrecht told Bloomberg it was "several hundred million pounds." The entire 90-person team of Serif, the creator of Affinity software, will join the company. According to Serif CEO Ashley Houston, Canva contacted the company "about six weeks ago" and began negotiations to acquire it. On the first day of negotiations, Serif set a "fair price" that Janwa immediately agreed to.
Serif was created in 1987. It later released DrawPlus, PhotoPlus, WebPlus and MoviePlus, which it discontinued. He later launched the Affinity line. According to The Verge, about 3 million users around the world use the program.
