Disney has officially announced a $1 billion investment in OpenAI in exchange for shares as part of a new licensing agreement.
Under this strategic deal, Disney gains unlimited corporate-level access to many of OpenAI’s tools, including ChatGPT. In return, users of OpenAI’s video-generation platform, Sora, will legally be able to use Disney-owned characters in their content starting next year.
The three-year licensing agreement covers approximately 200 classic Disney characters, as well as popular heroes from Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar.
It’s worth noting that unlicensed AI-generated content has become a growing issue for Disney. The company had previously sued Midjourney, issued an official warning to Character AI, and just two days ago sent a notice to Google, accusing the tech giant of using Disney’s copyrighted works in AI training without permission.
If you want, I can also create a short subtitle or headline variants.
