Users mass delete ChatGPT amid war-related discontent

In the US, ChatGPT mobile app uninstalls increased by 295% day-on-day on February 28. According to Sensor Tower, this jump occurred after the news of OpenAI’s partnership with the US Department of Defense. The app’s average daily uninstall rate over the past 30 days was just 9%.

At the same time, US downloads of its rival app Claude increased. After Anthropic announced that it was abandoning its partnership with the US Department of Defense, downloads increased by 37% on February 27 and 51% on February 28.

ChatGPT’s US downloads fell by 13% on Saturday and another 5% on Sunday. Against this background, Claude rose to first place in the US App Store. In addition, 1-star reviews for ChatGPT increased by 775%, while 5-star reviews decreased by 50%. Another analytics platform, Appfigures, confirmed similar dynamics.
