The number of people walking around the streets of the US with their MacBooks half-open is rapidly increasing. Business Insider has called this new trend “agentomania”. We are mainly talking about “vibe coders” who write code using AI.
The problem is that you cannot close the lid of your MacBook while AI tools like Claude Code are running. Otherwise, the process stops and the work done can be reset. That is why many people have started carrying their laptops with them half-open.
The article notes that many entrepreneurs, influencers and technology enthusiasts in the US and Canada keep their MacBooks open to run AI in the background while drinking coffee, on a plane or doing their daily chores.
Although users on social networks said that this seemed strange, some mentioned a simple solution. Thus, an application called Amphetamine prevents the device from going into “sleep mode” even when the MacBook is closed.
