Former Intel CEO introduces new method for evaluating artificial intelligence

Pat Gelsinger, the former CEO of Intel, has launched a new initiative to measure how well AI models align with human well-being. After more than 40 years at the technology giant Intel, Gelsinger is now leading a project that promotes the development of human-centered AI.

In collaboration with Gloo, a “faith tech” company he invested in about 10 years ago, he introduced a new benchmark called Flourishing AI (FAI). This benchmark evaluates how well AI models support human flourishing.

FAI is based on the Global Flourishing Study led by Harvard and Baylor universities. Gloo selected six core categories from the study to test large language models (LLMs):

  • Character and virtue
  • Close social relationships
  • Happiness and life satisfaction
  • Meaning and purpose
  • Mental and physical health
  • Financial and material stability

Additionally, Gloo added a seventh category: Faith and spirituality. The goal is to assess whether AI behaves ethically and humanely in these areas.

Gelsinger stated in an interview that he has “lived at the intersection of faith and technology” throughout his life, reflecting his vision for human-centered technology.

This initiative offers a new approach to evaluating AI not only on technical grounds but also in terms of social and spiritual values.
