Ilya Sutskever's startup secured a $1 billion investment

The AI startup Safe Superintelligence, founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, is close to raising over $1 billion—a higher valuation than previously reported just weeks ago.

According to Bloomberg, venture capital firm Greenoaks Capital Partners is leading the funding round, pledging $500 million. If the terms remain unchanged, this investment would bring Safe Superintelligence’s total funding to approximately $2 billion.

Sutskever is a widely respected figure in the AI and tech industry. During his time at OpenAI, he contributed to major AI breakthroughs, including the technical approach that enabled ChatGPT’s development.

Safe Superintelligence’s founding team also includes former OpenAI researcher Daniel Levy and ex-Apple AI projects lead Daniel Gross. The startup has secured backing from major investors such as Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and DST Global.

Currently, the company is not generating revenue and has no immediate plans to commercialize AI products.
