Instagram has started to implement new restrictions on videos that users secretly record and share with Meta smart glasses.
This was reported by Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri. According to him, the platform will block content that is humiliating, exploitative, and secretly recorded without their consent. The new rules are particularly aimed at accounts that secretly record and post videos of strangers on the street and make "pickup" (dating) videos.
Mosseri said that Instagram does not accept users who secretly record others, insult them, and then share those videos on the platform.
The company did not say how many videos were removed under the new policy. However, Business Insider writes that two popular "pickup" accounts with more than 1 million followers have already been removed from the platform. Meta confirmed that these accounts were deactivated for violating the new rules.
Meta's smart glasses have a special LED indicator that lights up when recording a video. However, some users have found ways to turn off or disable this light. The company said that as a countermeasure, it has implemented a new security mechanism that automatically deactivates the camera if the indicator is turned off or damaged.
