Jeff Bezos is returning to active business life for the first time since stepping down from the company’s leadership in 2021. According to The New York Times, the billionaire entrepreneur will serve as both an investor and co-CEO of a new artificial intelligence startup called Project Prometheus. Bezos will share this leadership role with Vik Bajaj, former head of Google’s Life Sciences division and co-founder of the biotechnology company Verily.
Already generating significant buzz in the tech world, Project Prometheus has secured $6.2 billion in funding. Bezos’ move marks his return not just as a passive investor, but as a hands-on leader directly involved in managing the venture. The startup’s main goal is to develop AI for the “physical economy.”
Specifically, the company will create AI solutions for engineering sectors such as computer technologies, aerospace, and automotive manufacturing. Their work is likened to laboratories that accelerate scientific research by simulating the physical world. Despite being a new company, Project Prometheus has already assembled a strong team of around 100 experts, including researchers transferred from major tech companies like Meta, OpenAI, and Google DeepMind.
